Agnes E. Arthur, age 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Agnes was born in Logan County Ohio August 11, 1921, to the late William H. and Alice E. (Davis) Ward. She married Ernest Bertell Arthur April 6, 1947 in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death August 26, 1969. She was also preceded in death by a son, John William Hone; two grandchildren Ben and Jodi; siblings Elizabeth Ward, Martha Gilbert, Jenny Ledrick, Margaret Gilbert, Dorothy Gilbert, Dan Ward, Charles Ward, Ruth Weldon and Alice Karg; her special friend, Ray Ricketts of West Liberty, Ohio, and her uncle Dan Davis, who helped raise Agnes and her siblings.
Agnes is survived by her children Judy Ostermyer, Ruby (Floyd) Brenner, both of Bellefontaine, Ray B. (Karen) Arthur of Russells Point, Ohio, Chuck (Joanna) Arthur of Bellefontaine; step-children Leo Arthur of Florida, Ruth Ann (Larry) Peters and Gerri Allen, both of Bellefontaine; thirteen grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Agnes retired from Bulldog/Siemens after twenty six years and then retired again at the age of 85 after bartending at the VFW, Eagles and Moore’s Café. She was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and was a Golden Eagle member. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, cracking walnuts and taking casino trips. Agnes attended the Gretna Brethren Church.
Calling hours will be held for Agnes at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
