Agnes H. (Angle) Strayer, 103, formerly of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Silver Bluff Village in Canton, North Caroliana where she had resided for the past several years. She was born in Putnam County, West Virginia September 25, 1906, the eldest child of the late John Wilbert and Laura Maude (Erwin) Angle. In her early teens, she moved with her family to Logan County, Union Township, near Bellefontaine.
A retired florist and horticulturist, Mrs. Strayer owned and operated The Agnes H. Strayer Floral and Gift Shop on South Main St. in Bellefontaine and later managed stores in Gainesville, Florida prior to retiring and moving to Waynesville, North Carolina to be close to her family. During retirement, she continued arranging flowers and loved working with ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel R. Strayer; five brothers, Kenneth, Vinson, Roy, Clarence and John Lloyd; and a sister, Helen Marie Porter. Mrs. Strayer is survived by her son, Dr. John R. Strayer and his wife, Pegi, granddaughter, Suzanne, and great granddaughter, Kaley, all of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina; a sister, Hallie Elliott of Bellefontaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. A graveside service will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio at 11:30 A.M.
