Akiko Kubo Gilbert, 89, of Bellefontaine, passed away at Logan Acres Care Center on Sunday, February 28, 2016.

She was born January 15, 1927 in Fukuako, Kyushu, Japan, a daughter of the late Yosaku and Hatsu Kubo.

On July 16 1953, she married Glenn Robert Gilbert in Tokyo, Japan and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2005. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Kikue Kubo; and brothers, Kiyoshi Kubo and Tokiyo Kubo.

Surviving is a niece, Ellen and Richard Patrick of Rushsylvania; and several nieces and nephews in Japan.

Akiko was a homemaker and a member of the New Salem Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at the New Salem Lutheran Church on Friday March 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. David Moreland officiating with visitation one prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery.

Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in Bellefontaine are in charge of arrangements.
