From a young age, Andy displayed an unwavering work ethic, beginning his professional journey on the family farm. His impressive career encompassed various roles, including working at a grocery store and greenhouse, a lumber yard, and eventually leading to notable positions in the egg industry.
Andy’s career flourished as he took on the role of hatchery manager for Hy-Line in Spencer, IA, before embarking on a transformative chapter as the International Sales Manager for the company. This position ushered him into numerous ventures, and he later became an owner of several egg production companies, including Hy-Cross, Agri-General, and Buckeye Egg Farm. His expertise contributed to some of the largest egg production firms in the nation, and his career spanned across states such as Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, reflecting his commitment and passion for the industry.
In the latter part of his career, Andy established his own consulting business within the egg industry, which opened doors for global travel, allowing him to work with clients and colleagues around the world. Among the many places he cherished, Japan held a special place in his heart, where he had spent time living and ensuring that his family and friends could experience its culture and beauty.
True to his generous nature, Andy played Santa Claus for his kids, nieces, nephews, and even neighbors in the communities in which he lived around the country. He delighted in bringing joy to the neighborhood kids, organizing outings, and treating them to candy store visits, cementing fond memories that will be cherished by those who knew him.
Andy was an active and athletic individual throughout his youth, enjoying activities like junior league baseball, bowling, and fastpitch softball. He embraced the thrill of riding motorcycles with friends and family and was a devoted sports fan, especially of baseball (both American and Japanese), the Cleveland Browns, and Iowa Hawkeyes football. His passion for golf was evident as he frequently traveled to Arizona for outings with friends from Lancaster, PA, all while fostering lifelong friendships at their condo at Catawba Shores on Catawba Island. Summers were often spent boating on Lake Erie, creating precious memories with loved ones.
As a proud father and grandfather, Andy found immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities, nurturing their interests and aspirations.
