Barbara “Jene” Kress, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed peacefully with her two children at her side at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Logan Acres Care Center. She was born in Bellefontaine on January 30, 1933 to the late Robert H. and Martha M. (Thompson) Miller.
On June 1, 1952, Jene married Harley E. “Gene” Kress and he survives, along with her daughter, Patricia Kress Wolfe of Dublin and her son Kim E. (Connie) Kress of Belle Center; grandchildren, Trina Allison of Dublin, Suzanne (Derek) Gillespie of Russells Point, and Connor Kress of Toledo; great grandchildren, Logan Wolfe, Victoria Allison, Nicole Allison, Cassandra Allison, and Jace Gillespie; a brother, Glen Miller of Jasper, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Jene was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tricia James.
Jene was a 1951 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. She was in the world of finance her whole career and retired as Bellefontaine City Auditor. Jene attended the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine. She was a member of the Republican Party and the King’s Daughters’ Group. Jene was a past United Way chairman and an original board member of the developing committee for the Friendly Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and being a part of her Bridge Club. Jene’s maternal grandmother, Marie Springer, was a big part of her life and was her most influential role model.
Ashley Sloan of the Huntsville Methodist Church will be leading a private graveside service at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
