Barbara J. Metz

Barbara Jean Metz, 95, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 12, 2023, at Logan Acres Care Center.

Barbara was born on October 12, 1928, in Upper Sandusky, to the late Joseph Edward and Gloria Mae (Williams) Althauser.  She married James Alvin Metz on March 19, 1947, in Central City, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on August 29, 2001.  She was also preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law Philip and Edna Metz, and 2 sisters Joanne and Marilyn Althauser.

Barbara is survived by her children:  JoEllen (Brian) Rockhold of Bellefontaine, James H. Metz of Bellefontaine, and Matthew D. (Laura) Metz of DeGraff; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Barbara worked for JCPenney in the Women’s Department for many years.  She also worked as a school cook in Logan County school systems, as well as working 5 years for McDonald’s Bellefontaine South location.   Barbara was a ham radio operator and loved playing Bingo.

The family will have a private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
