Bettie Jenkins

Bettie N. Jenkins, 89, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday evening, January 17, 2014 at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine.

She was born in Bellefontaine February 5, 1924, to the late Frank and Doris (Orr) Rockwell. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Donald Leslie Jenkins in 1991.

Bettie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Choyce and Charles Earick of Bellefontaine; two grandchildren and their spouses, Lesli and Bill Harris and Leah and Brian Lirette, all of Bellefontaine and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Bryce Harris.

Bettie was a 1942 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine. As a young woman, she loved dancing to the big band sounds at the Indian Lake Moonlight Terrace Gardens.

In the early 1950’s, Bettie and Don owned and operated a small neighborhood grocery on East Auburn Ave. in Bellefontaine. She retired from full time employment with the JC Penney Company in 1986 and continued to work another six years part time, totaling thirty two years.

Calling hours will be held at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine Tuesday, January 21, 2014, from 4 to 6 P.M. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
