Betty L. Schmerge

Betty L. Schmerge, 87, of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday evening, April 4, 2024, at Indian Lake Rehabilitation Center.

Betty was born in Hardin County on August 17, 1936, to the late Tira Wynegar and Mary (Zimmerman) Brentlinger.  She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers: Charles Brentlinger, Earl E. Miller, Raymond A. Miller, Robert L. Miller, and William H. Miller; and a sister Bernice Stober.

Betty is survived by her husband Eugene W. Schmerge, whom she married on October 13, 1956.  She is also survived by a daughter Terri (Terry) Schneider of Bellefontaine; a son Tim (Rhonda) Schmerge of Lewistown; 3 grandchildren:  Gina Schneider, James (Amanda) Schneider, and Hannah (Jesse) Brown; 2 great-grandchildren: Kennedy Schneider and Amelia Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.   In her younger years, she was involved with the Girl Scouts, and had worked at JCPenney, Ohio Hi-Point JVS, and Sanese Services.  Betty was a farm-wife for many years and enjoyed the women of the Eveready Club.

Visitation for Betty will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 5-7pm at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10, at 10am at St. Patrick Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
