Byron F. “Wick” Wickersham, 86, of Zanesfield, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Heartland of Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was born on April 4, 1922 in Zanesfield, Ohio, to the late Charles Emmer and Annise N. Teelle Wickersham.

He retired from Molton Gas Service, working until the age of 83. For many years, Wick would play taps for the Memorial Day Services at the Zanesfield Cemetery. His passion was playing jazz music during the Big Band era and he traveled the world playing his trumpet with the Don Smith Band.

A 1940 graduate of Zanesfield High School, he was a member of the Goshen Friends Church, the East Liberty Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Bellefontaine V.F.W., American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Wick was an avid golfer and loved to bowl and was still bowling at the age of 85.

His survived by his close friends, Leonard (Karen) Taylor & family of Huntsville, Ohio, and Julie (Doug) Joseph & family of Bellefontaine and may other close acquaintances.

Calling hours are Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 1 to 4 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Pastor Fred Kensler will conduct the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the Goshen Friends Church in Zanesfield. Burial will follow in the Zanesfield Cemetery.
