Carre Richard “Dick” Carter, age 82, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

He was born August 27, 1932 in Bellefontaine, to the late Samuel A. and Florence Lucille (Brooks) Carter. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Betty Eileen Slaughter, Jeanne Elaine Hurst and twin sisters; and a son-in-law, Patrick Shawn Winters.

On April 28, 1956, he married the former Patricia Ann Tuffnell in Romford-Essex County, England and she survives along with their children, Kerri (Barney) Sullivan of Bremen, Georgia, Stacey (Jack) Stahler of Bellefontaine, Jennifer (Gregg) DeMent of Bellefontaine, Gary (Sheri) Carter of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark (Patty) Carter of Bellefontaine and Shaun Carter of Key West, Florida; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Sandra) Carter of Clarksville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A United States Air Force Veteran, Dick worked at DAB in Bellefontaine retiring in 1997. He was a former member of the V.F.W. #1080, American Legion #173 and the Eagles #2166. An avid OSU fan, Dick was proud to attend the 2002 National Championship game with his son, Gary. He enjoyed traveling with his children every summer especially to Myrtle Beach, which was his favorite place to go. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and he was and still is an avid supporter of Bellefontaine athletics. He also enjoyed gardening and fruit trees.

Grandson, Pastor Donald “Andy” Carter, will officiate a 10:30 A.M. funeral service Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 3, 2014.

Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio with military rites preformed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
