Catherine “Maxine” Newland, age 89, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her residence with her daughter, Lori Geho; her sister, Mary Ann Downing and her best friend, Lena Coleman at her side.
She was born September 12, 1924 in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late John H. and Neoma Edith (Grimes) Morgan.
On June 16, 1946 in Springfield, Ohio, she married Richard Thomas Newland and he preceded her in death August 21, 2009. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Pamela Horne; a son, Rick Newland; a sister, Marge Bryson; a brother-in-law, Brian Downing; two sister-in-laws, Marilyn and Kay Morgan, and a half-brother, Carl Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Geho of Bellefontaine; grandsons, Dustin (Kyle Cronley) Geho, Scott (Missy) Horne, Brandon (Terri Peyton) Horne, R J (Glenna Wickersham) Horne; great-grandsons, Christopher Horne, Asher Frazier, Jayden Geho and Dennis Horne; great-granddaughters, Jordan Horne, Shelby Horne, Hallee Horne, Kelly Horne; a great-great-grandson, Jaxson Horne; sisters, Dorothy (Harry) Lease of Hilliard, Ohio and Mary Ann Downing of Bellefontaine; brothers, Richard (Zaida) Morgan of Urbana, Ohio, Jim (Barbara) Morgan of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Danny and John Morgan both of Bellefontaine; a son-in-law, Ron Horne of Bellefontaine, and many very special nieces and nephews.
Maxine was a 1942 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, after attending school in DeGraff and Zanesfield, Ohio. She was a member of the Huntsville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild.
Maxine enjoyed her flower gardens, decorating her house, writing letters, her family, children and grandchildren.
Pastor Bryan Meadows will lead a memorial service at 11 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Huntsville United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
