Charles M. “Chuck” Barton, age 92, of Bellefontaine, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at his home. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio August 29, 1927, to the late Mark and Elizabeth (Kress) Barton.

On November 28, 1948, Chuck and Rosemary Barker were united in marriage at the Bellefontaine First Church of God.  They were the parents of three children, Jackie, Sherry and Jeff.  Jackie (2007) and Sherry (2009) have both passed away and Jeff survives along with his wife Nicole, and son, Nikolas and daughter, Bella all living in Bellefontaine; five grandchildren, Brigett (Bill) Ruggles, Melissa (Jeff) Brock, Todd (Lori) Wilcoxon, Jonathan (Megan) Wilcoxon, and Sherri Carmichael; thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, all living in Virginia and a grandson, Marc (Jennifer) Johnson and three great grandchildren, all living in Arizona and his siblings, Beverly (Larry) Brenner of Powell, Ohio and Kress (Donnie) Barton of Bellefontaine.

A Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, Chuck worked at the Hopewell Dairy in Bellefontaine for twelve years.  He then sold insurance for Prudential for twelve years and eventually became co-owner of Barton Insurance for ten years, before retiring from Modern Woodman Insurance. Chuck was a lifelong resident of Bellefontaine and was an active member of the Bellefontaine First Church of God. Chuck was involved with the bus ministry at the church for over thirty years, which would pick children up from their homes and bring them to and from church on Sundays. He also led the men’s Bible study at church for fifteen years. Chuck was a member of the Bellefontaine Rotary and the Jaycees. He also served eight years as a member of the Bellefontaine City School Board. Chuck loved to write, go fishing, ride his bike and most of all he loved his wife Rosemary for over seventy five years before her passing in April 2019.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the First Church of God in Bellefontaine.

Pastors Gary Brown, Ron Irick, and Nate Wilcoxon will officiate the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 at the church.

Burial will follow the funeral service at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio with military rites provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
