Charles F. Godwin, 66, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at 4:15 P.M. Sunday, March 27, 2011, in the emergency room at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born in Monroe Township, Logan County July 5, 1944, a son of the late Chester and Velma (Kline) Godwin. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Grace Stevenson and his first wife, Sharon Summers May 17, 1971.
On November 25, 1972 he married the former Ruth Steele, and she survives along with two daughters, Robin (Chris) McConnell of Zanesfield, Ohio, Michelle (Dennis) Jones of Bellefontaine; two sons, Richard Reynolds (Melissa Yeager) Godwin of Rushsylvania, Ohio, and Charles Junior of West Liberty, Ohio; two brothers, Robert (Sue) Godwin of West Liberty and Thomas (Joan) Godwin of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Kathy (Fred) Dearduff of Middleburg, Ohio, and Karen (Bruce) Van Horn of Goshen, Indiana; five grandchildren, Mike (Melissa) McConnell, Joe (Alyssa) McConnell, Hayes Tyler Godwin, Gage Yeager and Alissa Yeager.
A farmer and truck driver of nearly thirty five years of which fifteen of those were as a fuel truck driver for the Logan County Farm Bureau in Bellefontaine, he retired from Champaign County Landmark. He was known for driving his Chevrolet trucks or his antique John Deere tractors.
He was a 1962 graduate of Logan Hills High School in Zanesfield. He spent his retirement going to farm auctions and spending time in his woods located on Co. Rd. 29 and Twp. Rd. 55. He enjoyed going to high school sporting events, the Cincinnati Reds, collecting sports cards for over fifty years, taking weekend trips and going to festivals. He raised, paraded and worked Belgium horses and was a member of the Logan County Antique Tractor Club. He also was elected to serve as a four year board member at church.
Pastors Casey Storm and A. W. Purdin will conduct the funeral at the Goshen Friends Church in Zanesfield Friday, April 1, 2011 at 11 A.M. Calling hours are Thursday, March 31, 2011, from 3 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Interment will be in the Zanesfield Cemetery.
