Charles “Charlie” R. Knight, 77, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at his residence. He was born on September 26, 1931 in Bellefontaine, to the late Charles Hershel and Gladys Twila Cost Knight.
On September 27, 1998 he married Eleanor Thompson in Bellefontaine and she survives. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Esther Thompson; a son, David (Marla) Knight of San Jose, California; 2 daughters, Karen Rigel of Sidney, Ohio, and Brenda (Jim) Lamma of Maplewood, Ohio; 5 step daughters, Sheryl (Bill Hazeltine) Dolan, Mary Clem, Ellen (Gail) Trout all of Lakeview, Ohio, Sharon (Jay) Robinson of Quincy, Ohio and Theresa (Steve) Webb of Brooksville, Florida; a step-son, Lee Roy (Becky) Clem of Seville, Ohio; a brother, Lawrence (Ellen) Knight of Monroe, Ohio; a sister, Mary Jane (Clifford) Kelley of Bellefontaine; 9 grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 17 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Stanley Thompson.
Charlie worked for the railroad and was an Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Am Vets and the V.F.W. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Father Patrick Sheridan and Rev. A. W. Purdin will conduct the funeral service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be conducted by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery.
