Charlie McClain, 93, of West Liberty passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Logan Acres Care Center surrounded by his family.

He was born in West Liberty, Ohio on August 9, 1921 to the late Herbert and Zellah (Bailey) McClain. On December 23, 1948, he married the former Janet Smith in West Liberty and she preceded him in death on November 13, 2005. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert Don, John, Jim and Phil McClain and one sister, Joan Williams.

He is survived by his daughter Linda (Steve Lyon) McClain of West Liberty and step-son Phil (Ann) Smith of West Liberty; four step-grandchildren, Jerry Smith, Jill Smith, Laurie (Bruce) Thurman, and Lisa (Steve) Sterling and seven step-great-grandsons, Derek and Kody Thurman, J.R. Smith, Cale, Carter, Cooper, and Christian Sterling and a sister in law, Helen McClain of Greenville, Ohio.

Charlie was a 1940 graduate of West Liberty High School and worked as a mechanic for many years for Weymouth’s SOHIO filling stating in West Liberty. He then was the owner and operator of Charlie’s Shell service station in West Liberty until his retirement. He was a member of the board of directors for Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty for 14 years. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger.

Pastor Ron Irick will officiate the funeral service on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty where visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
