Christopher L. “Chris” Dunnigan III, 82, of Columbus and formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away at 2:44 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Troy, New York on May 1, 1934 to the late Christopher L. Dunnigan Jr. and Ida Elizabeth (Vermilyea) Dunnigan. He was also preceded in death by; a sister, Susan Alf; three half-sisters, Patty Dunnigan, Kay DeBoer, and Christine Martinez.

On October 15, 1955 Chris married the former Sally Marquis in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and she survives; along with five children, Lori (Randy) Lowery, Mark (Kimberly) Dunnigan, Cindy Dunnigan, Derek (Tonia) Dunnigan, and Katie (Todd) Robinson; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a half-brother, James Dunnigan; and many nieces and nephews.

A retired purchasing agent for Honda of America, Chris graduated from Troy High School in New York in 1952. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserves before later serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed at the Bellefontaine Air Force Station where he was a Radio and Crypto Operator. Chris was a life-member of VFW Post #1080, Elks Lodge #132, and American Legion Posts #173 and #248. He was also a member of Bellefontaine F.O.E. #2166, Indian Lake Moose #1533, and the 664th AC&W Squadron Reunion Committee. In his younger years, Chris enjoyed playing softball. Later in life, he was an avid card player who enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery at a later date.
