Clarence Nevers

Clarence Louis “Sonny” Nevers, 72, of Lakeview, Ohio, was placed in the Lord’s hands Thursday, December 31, 2009, at Special Select Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, October 28, 1937, a son of the late Clarence D. Nevers and Virginia May Mowrey Hoffman. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Nevers; and a lifelong friend, Betty Salzwimmer.

Survivors include a son, Rex (Stephanie) Staley of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Kim (Ray) Davis of Lewistown, Ohio; grandchildren, Brad Staley, Connor Davis and Rachel Davis; two brothers, Dan (Pat) Nevers and Jim Hill, both of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Sharon Hill Alexander and Norma Hill, both of Bellefontaine; and several nieces and nephews.

Sonny worked at Logan Finishing for 33 years, then for Cherokee Run Landfill for 10 years and retired from Indian Lake Schools as a custodian.

A 1958 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, he served our country in the Ohio National Guard and was a member of the AMVETS Post 39, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3615 and Moose Lodge 1533, all of Lakeview.

In Sonny’s early days, he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, enjoying long rides on his Gold Wing, and boating and fishing. Sonny spent his entire life supporting the Indian Lake Rollarena by competing in roller derbies or working there. He had a love for bowling and competed in local and national tournaments for more than 30 years.

Sonny reminisced often about his paper route he had when he was a boy and all the adventures it brought. Lately, he enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s baseball, softball, soccer games, along with attending all other school events and having his oldest recently join the Army Military Police.

He seldom missed Bellefontaine and Indian Lake football and basketball games. He also enjoyed his friends that met at McDonald’s, Burger King and Subway of Indian Lake, and was a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan.

Pastor Ron Irick will officiate the funeral service at 11 A.M. Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where calling hours are from 5 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2010. Burial is in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
