Clayton C. Hursh, Jr. passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Logan Acres Care Center. He was born on November 13, 1934, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Clayton C. Hursh, Sr. and Catherine (Weber) Hursh. He was also preceded in death by his sister Caroline (Frederick) Baker.

In 1953, Clayton married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane (Roof) Hursh and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2015. Clayton was the father of one daughter, Cheryl (Bob) Mitchell, and two sons; Charles (Deborah Wagy) Hursh and Christopher (Angela) Hursh, of Cincinnati. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Bob Jr. (Laura) Mitchell, Christi (Wes) Dodds, Brooks (Ashley) Hursh, Jordan (Hannah Hefner) Hursh, LilyAna Hursh and Elizabeth Hursh. Clayton was also Great-Grandfather to Laney and Blaine Mitchell. In addition, he is survived by a nephew, Frederick (Sue) Baker of NC and a niece, Margaret Baker Raley of FL.

Clayton grew up in Middletown, OH, but spent his summers at their family’s lake house on Orchard Island in Russells Point, Ohio. Clayton graduated from Middletown High School in 1952 and from Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, MI in 1954. After graduation Clayton worked at Armco Steel in Middletown for nine years. In 1963, he moved his family to Bellefontaine after taking a job at Bulldog Electric (Siemens) where he worked for 33 years before retiring.

Clayton was an active member of the Masonic Lodges and Eastern Star. He belonged to the Jefferson Lodge #90 and Royal Arch Chapter in Middletown. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 32 Degree in Dayton. He was a member of the 32 Degree Club, Bellefontaine Commandery and the Order of the Eastern Star in Bellefontaine. Clayton served as Governor of the Order of DeMolay in Bellefontaine, Urbana, and Marysville for several years. He took great pleasure and pride in working with this group of fine young men.

Clayton was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, where he served on many different committees throughout the years.

Clayton loved fishing, hunting, and golfing. He enjoyed his “Thursday Morning Breakfast” with some of the guys he had worked with at Siemens. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Eichholtz, Daring, & Sanford Funeral Home, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where Pastor Ed Beale will officiate along with Masonic services. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will immediately follow at the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
