Dale Kauffman, 78, of Zanesfield, Ohio, died of lung cancer Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in Columbus surrounded by his family. He was born April 1, 1932, in Logan County, the eldest son of David and Olive (Hartzler) Kauffman.

He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Irene (Overholt) and children; Karla of Three Rivers, Michigan; David (Sherry) of Lititz, Pennsylvania and Karen (Herb Landis) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His grandchildren are Kate and Jacob Landis and Erin and Tara Sang Kauffman. He is also survived by four brothers; Joe (Alona), Warren (Elma) and Ken (Jane), all of West Liberty, Ohio, and Harold (Elaine) of Goshen, Indiana; and a sister Ruth (Lowell) Detweiler of Akron, Pennsylvania.

Dale was a life-long farmer which brought him much joy. He taught Social Studies at Benjamin Logan Middle School for twenty years. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, discussing global issues and spending time with family.

He graduated from West Liberty High School in 1950. He attended Goshen College, OSU, and graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1972. He served Palestinian refugees in Jordan under MCC from 1953-55 and also enjoyed other international travels. He was a faithful member of South Union Mennonite Church where he served as Sunday school teacher and elder.

The funeral service will be held at the South Union Mennonite Church Monday, June 14, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. with calling hours at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty Sunday, June 13, 2010 from 2 to 5 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to MCC 21 S. 12th Akron, PA 17501

The funeral arrangements were handled by the staff at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty.
