Dale Phillip Snapp, age 81, of Bellefontaine, Ohio passed away at 10:08 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2020 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
He was born in Huntsville, Ohio November 30, 1938, a son of the late Roy E. and Myrle (Idle) Snapp. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Avis Nicholas, Wilda Hayes, Dwight Snapp, Howard Snapp and Richard Snapp and a brother in law, Gordon Graves.
On August 29, 1958, he married Dorothy (Clason) Snapp and she survives. He is also survived by four children, Teresa “Teri” (Larry) Elsass of East Liberty, Ohio, Thomas Snapp of Bellefontaine, Timothy “Tim” (Cindy) Snapp of New Carlise, Ohio and Todd Snapp of Bellefontaine; four grandsons, Thomas “Tommy” Snapp of Columbus, John Looney of Urbana, Anthony Snapp of Bellefontaine, and Casey Snapp of New Carlise; two granddaughters, Sarah Looney of East Liberty and Natalie Snapp of Bellefontaine; a step grandson, David Niswonger and a step granddaughter, Celeste (Jon Doup) Niswonger, all of Bellefontaine; four step great grandchildren, Aiden Elsass, Jaxton Niswonger, Mitchell Niswonger, and Emilia Doup; his siblings, Donna Voorhies, Wilbur (India Ann) Snapp, Emerson (Sheila) Snapp, and Ron (Judy) Snapp; two sisters-in-law, Madeline “Bunny” Snapp, Evelyn Snapp and Marge Graves of Tipp City; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Buster and Lila.
Dale worked in sales most of his career in addition to being a business owner. He served in the National Guard and was a life member of the B.P.O.E. #132, 32nd degree F&AM, Antioch Shrine Funster and all masonic bodies. He enjoyed the many activities of the Shrine and Funsters until he could no longer participate due to health reasons. He was one of the original three owners of Cherokee Hills Golf Course. He along with his daughter Teri, began a therapeutic horse riding program for handicapped children at the farm.
He enjoyed camping with family and friends in their motor home and spent several winters in Pine Island, Florida and was a member of the Lima Smiling Sams Camping Club. He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association and loved horses, but raising the foals was his greatest passion which he was able to do for more than forty years.
Theo Ebelberger will officiate the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow funeral service at the Huntsville Cemetery.
The family has requested memorial donations be sent to Antioch Shrine 107 E. First St. Dayton, Ohio 45402
