Daniel E. Gilbert

Daniel E. Gilbert, age 91, of Urbana, passed away at 9:18 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on February 21, 1933, to the late Johnson E. “Huck” and Martha B. (Ward) Gilbert. 

On July 17, 1964, he married Myra J. (Hague) Gilbert, and she survives.

Daniel is also survived by his children, Kimberly (John) McNeely and Timothy W. Gilbert; grandchildren, Jami (Kevin) Clifford, Jessica (Eli) Ault, Jared McNeely, Tymothy (Breanna) Gilbert, and Garth Gilbert; great grandchildren, Ava, Chloe, Keegan, Franki, Oliver, Ava, August, Mason, and one on the way.

Along with his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Jodi Lynn Gilbert. 

Daniel was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with a dedicated career as a surveyor, including many years at the Logan County Engineer’s office. He was an active member of the Champaign County Historical Society, serving as past president, and held lifetime membership at the Logan County Historical Society. Additionally, Daniel was a lifetime member of the NRA. He had a deep appreciation for The Ohio State Buckeyes and was an enthusiastic model railroad hobbyist. Daniel will be missed by all who knew and loved him. 

Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday from 1pm to 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Rushsylvania Cemetery, with military rites provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
