David Costin


David B. Costin, 76, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.

He was born in Bellefontaine January 13, 1938, the son of the late Roland Joseph and Margaret (Dowell) Costin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Smucker and a nephew, Brian Smucker.

He is survived by a son, David D. Costin of Bellefontaine and a daughter, Lee Ann (Todd) Brown of Urbana, Ohio; three grandchildren, Dax Brown, C.J. Costin, and Colton Costin; a niece and a nephew and his dog, Pete.

David was a 1956 graduate of Bellefontaine High School where he was in concert and marching band, playing the trombone. He then attended Miami University before graduating from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1960. He worked as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for several funeral homes including the Van Horn Funeral Home in Lakeview, Ohio and the Reeder Funeral Home in DeGraff, Ohio before coming to work for Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine in 1963. He was a partner in the Eichholtz Funeral Home beginning in 1976 until 1990, when he retired.

He had attended the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, was a member of the Elks Club in Bellefontaine and served as a Lake Township Trustee for many years. His hobbies included mushroom hunting, restoring old cars, fishing and watching NASCAR racing. In years past he enjoyed Tennessee walking horses and traveling to Florida. He was a generous man and had a quiet way of helping a person in need.

Gene Marine will officiate a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Bellefontaine Cemetery. Casual attire has been requested by the family.

The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the funeral arrangements.
