David Norman Smith, age 70, of Russells Point, Ohio and Naples, Florida and formerly of Troy, Ohio, passed away Monday afternoon, August 21, 2017 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. David was born in Dayton, Ohio April 27, 1947, to the late Norman E. and Marjorie (Kinzie) Smith.
David owned Trojan House of Carpets in Troy until he retired in 2012,. His father started this business in 1960 and they spent many years working together. While living in Troy, David was on the Troy Chamber of Commerce Board, Troy Main Street Board, and a member of the Kiwanis Club. In addition to the carpet business, he had many entrepreneurial endeavors. David's faith was important to him and attended the Huntsville United Methodist Church and the Marco Presbyterian Church in Marco Island, Florida, with his wife.
Over the years, Dave had many interests. He had a passion for life and believed in living it to the fullest. He got his commercial pilot's license and enjoyed flying across the country with his friends and family. He also traveled to many countries with his wife and children. He liked to golf, ski, and fish. Above all else, he loved being with his family. He was a very generous person and always put others' needs above his own.
David married the former Geraldine “Jerri” Caudle March 18, 1967 in Tipp City and she survives in Russells Point and Naples. He is also survived by daughters, Carrie Liesel (James Crittle) Smith of Naperville, Illinois and Sheri Lynn (Chris Davis) Smith of Troy; four grandchildren: Sofia, Dylan, Taylor and Mason; three sisters, Joyce Smith, Beverly Thompson and Becky Compton, all of Dayton and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a celebration of David’s life at the Huntsville United Methodist Church September 23, 2017, at 3:00 P.M.
The staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
