David White

David Lindsey White, 82, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away with his loving family by his side at noon Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Birchaven Rehabilitation Center in Findlay, Ohio after a short illness.

David was born March 20, 1930, to the late Thomas D. and Ann (Lindsey) White in Belfast, Ireland. During World War II when David was 10 years old, his father moved the family to London, England where he resided until joining the British Merchant Marines at age 16. He then joined the Royal Air Force where he met the love of his life, Peggy Rozee and they were married in Kenton, Ohio September 2, 1950. She preceded him in death January 19, 2000.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, David Patrick and Allen Lindsey; a brother, Thomas L. White and a sister, Pearl (Don) Predmore.

David is survived by a daughter, Sandra S. (Woody) Stone of Findlay, Ohio; 3 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. David and Peggy moved from London, England to Kenton, Ohio in 1950 to manage one of his father’s numerous businesses. He then joined the United States Air Force serving in the 307th Bomb Group/Wing from 1952 to 1956, where he was granted his U.S. citizenship, and flew many bombing missions over North Korea.

David was an executive for Rockwell International and as Plant Engineer, he traveled all over the country via his own airplane consulting other Rockwell plants regarding machine repairs. Peggy would also accompany him on his numerous business trips. He retired from Rockwell in 1983 and was a successful businessman, owning and operating White Radio and TV and had several rental properties.

David obtained his private and commercial pilot’s licenses and his greatest passion was flying his own private airplane and giving an airplane ride to anyone who requested it. A member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine, he was Past President of Top of Ohio Pilot’s Association, was skilled in carpentry and designed and carefully crafted beautiful cabinets and furniture for his homes. David and Peggy loved to travel back to England and Ireland to visit family, and also enjoyed traveling across the United States in their R.V. They designed and built three homes together, the last being Peggy’s dream home where they spent a lot of time hosting parties and entertaining.

David was known for his mischievous sense of humor, his quick wit, fairness to everyone and as a kind, caring, generous father and grandfather who will be missed tremendously by his family.

Calling hours are Friday, May 25, 2012 from 10 A.M. to 12 noon at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Pastor Rob Fulton will officiate a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio, where David will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and sons.
