David Younkman


David Alan Younkman, 79, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty.

He was born in Ravenna, Ohio February 18, 1935, to the late Daniel and Beryl (Crooks) Younkman. On June 7, 1958, he married the former Jane Mikesell at the West Liberty United Methodist Church and she preceded him in death November 10, 2011. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Kutz.

David is survived by his sons, Derek (Jane Riggs) Younkman of Indian Lake, Ohio and Jon (Kamila) Younkman of Dublin, Ohio; four granddaughters, Brittany, Bethany, Alyson and Amanda Younkman; and a sister, Anita (Bill) Ryan of Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania.

David was a graduate of Ravenna High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1957 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. A United States Navy Veteran, David grew up in the construction business and worked alongside his father as a general contractor in northeastern Ohio. Later he was a vice-president of Ryan Homes in Pittsburgh before he semi-retired in 1977 and moved his family to Logan County Ohio, where he started managing several farms that he had invested in over the years. During this time he was an active member and former officer of the American Soybean Association and the Ohio Soybean Association. He also continued to develop land and build homes in and around Bellefontaine.

David enjoyed traveling, snow skiing and boating. He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

Calling hours will be held at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M. where Pastor Lee Ortman will officiate the funeral service Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow the service at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
