Dennis G. Lotz, 90, of Jackson Center, passed away Saturday morning, February 11, 2023, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Dennis was born in Jackson Township, Shelby County, Ohio, on June 7, 1932, to the late Samuel H. and Flossie (Glick) Lotz. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Elinor Eileen McGowan on June 22, 1952 in Muchinippi Church, and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2020. He was also preceded in death by sisters Helen Howard and Adelia Riley, brothers Leland Lotz and Guy Lotz, and sisters-in-law Beverly Weiskittle and Eloise Siebeneck.
Dennis is survived by children: Sharon (Henry) Zimpfer, Bruce (Sandy) Lotz, Brian (Jamie) Lotz, and Melanie Lotz, all of Jackson Center; 6 grandchildren: Alison (Matthew) Barkman, Jasmine (Shane) Lotz, Ben Liggett, Stephany (John) Oakley, Marshall (Allie) Lotz, and Skyler (Julia) Lotz; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Max McGowan of DeGraff; and several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Jackson Center High School, Dennis was a lifelong farmer and retired from Whiteline Express where he was a truck driver for 20 years. After Whiteline, he worked another 8 years as a parts runner for Plastipak. Dennis was a lifelong member of the Jackson Center United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Shelby County Mounted Deputies for 25 years, serving under 4 Sheriffs. Dennis was a member of the Jackson Center Masonic Lodge. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed camping and designing custom fishing rods. Over the years, Dennis donated his time supporting the local community by hauling bleachers for Community Days and taking tractors to the fair.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 10am until 12 noon at the Jackson Center United Methodist Church, 202 East Pike St. Jackson Center, where Pastors Randal Bratka and Ed Shady will officiate the funeral at 12 noon. Private family burial will be at a later date in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Gutman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lotz of Blessings (www.lotzofblessings.org), a charity started by Dennis’s great-nephew and wife.
