Dixie Lee Slayback, 84, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025, at Kenton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Dixie was born in West Mansfield, Ohio, on February 11, 1940, to the late Alpha S. and Cecil M. (Heavner) Emmons. She married Ronald Leroy Slayback on October 5, 1961, and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1989. Dixie was also preceded in death by 9 siblings: Harold Emmons, Jim Emmons, Clarence Emmons, William “Bill” Emmons, Ernest Emmons, Mary Creamer, Dorothy Rae, Betty Truesdale, and Robert Emmons.

Dixie is survived by her children: Melinda (Greg) Price of Bellefontaine, Rodney (Sharon) Slayback of Alabama, Randy (Dee) Slayback of Belle Center, Russell (Cara) Slayback of Bellefontaine, and Ryan Slayback of DeGraff; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dixie served during Vietnam and was stationed in Germany for a year. She was a 1958 graduate of Perry-Zane High School. Dixie was a babysitter for hundreds of kids in the Logan County area. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing cards. Dixie loved her family and the time they spent together.

Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a graveside service on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11am at Rushsylvania Cemetery, with military honors provided by members of the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
