Don E. Maples

Don E. Maples, 84, of West Liberty, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at home. He was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee on May 28, 1933 to the late Wade and Roxie (Hurst) Maples.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Allen Maples; grandsons, Nathan Maples and Ethan Heffner; and brothers, Lee, Dean and Robert Maples.

Don is survived by his wife Marylyn Joan Walker whom he married in Claiborne County, Tennessee on May 28, 1955.  He is also survived by his son, Don J. (Wendy) Maples; daughters, Barbara (Clayton) Eads, Jill (Rick) Heffner; grandchildren, Sara (Luke) Varner, Brad Maples, Jaclyn (Brett) Perucki, Jessica (Ryan) Hamill; great grandchildren, Justin, Jack and Jessa Varner, Natalie Perucki; brothers, Fleetwood (Vivian) Maples  of Wapakoneta, Joe (Della) Maples, Carl (DeAnna) Maples, and Mike (Betsy) Maples, all of New Tazewell, Tennessee; sisters, Cinda Russell of Guston, Kentucky and Virginia (W.T.) Williams of Tazewell, Tennessee.

Don came to Ohio when he was 18 and began working in road construction as a laborer. He then became a grader operator for the Rhoten Construction Company and later for the Heffner Construction Company. He was highly skilled in that field of work, took great pride in it, and enjoyed pointing out roads he had helped build to family members on road trips. He left road construction to become a full-time farmer in 1975.

Don was a devoted husband to his wife and loving father to his children and their families. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Friends may call at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 2-4pm & 6-8pm.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 11, at the funeral home at 11am.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
