Donald H. Barkley, 89, of West Liberty, Ohio, formerly of Springfield, Ohio, passed away February 19, 2011 in Venice, Florida. Don was associated with CUNA Mutual for many years and was highly regarded by his valued clients. He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Parish in Springfield, Ohio.
Born in Marion, Ohio, January 16, 1922, Don was the son of the late John and Martha Hettler Barkley. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Betty, and seven siblings.
Don was blessed with a large extended family and is survived by his loving wife, Janeana Barkley of West Liberty; a son, Jan (Jewell) Barkley of Chatham, New Jersey; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Lauren; a daughter, Debra (Keith) Nagy of Charlotte, North Carolina; a grandson, Mark (Lindsay) Nagy; a great-grandson, Mason; and stepsons, Tad (Kathy) and Miles Atherton of Urbana, Ohio. Don is also survived by his brother, Ralph Barkley; sisters, Mary Stafford and Jean (Kenneth) Hodges, all of Marion, Ohio and a sister, Helen Moloney of Oak Harbor, Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 23, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph’s Church in Springfield with Father Hackman officiating. A graveside service, conducted by Kevin Kehn, will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Marion Cemetery in Marion, Ohio.
Don was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. All those whose lives he touched will remember his twinkling eyes, mischievous smile, and generous spirit.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Don’s name to the charity of your choice.
The staff of the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty assisted the family with the local arrangements.
