Donald C. Bayliss, 87, of Columbus and formerly of Rushsylvania, passed away at 8:59 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Dublin Methodist Hospital. He was born in Rushsylvania, Ohio on March 6, 1929 to the late Fred E. and Hazel B. (Jacobs) Bayliss. He was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Harvey) Terrill; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thurman (Juanita) Bayliss, Fred (Alice) Bayliss, and Robert “Bob” (Martha) Bayliss.
On August 21, 1961, Don married the former Mary Margaret Best, and she survives, along with their daughter, Suzanne “Suzie” (Ignacio “Nacho” “Iggy”) Garcia; three grandchildren, Dante (Malissa) Garcia, Marquelle (Jake) Tomasi, and Giovanni “Givi” Garcia, who was nicknamed by his Pappa; four great grandchildren, Ashton, Madden, Milano and Liliana; a sister-in-law, Martha Boysel Bayliss; and many nieces and nephews.
A member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Rushsylvania, Don graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from Ohio Northern University in 1963. He had taught at Indian Lake, Bellefontaine, and most recently at Benjamin Logan Middle School, where he taught art. His hobbies included singing, gardening, and decorating.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 12 noon at the First United Presbyterian Church, on the corner of Sandusky St. and Miami Rd., in Rushsylvania, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12th at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday. Burial will follow in Rushsylvania Cemetery in Rushsylvania, Ohio.
