Donald L. Harkins, 87, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, July 25, 1921, a son of the late Trella and Florence Angles Harkins. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
On August 17, 1943, he married the former Dorothy Canton in Kentucky, and she survives, along with a son, Donald L. (Sandy) Harkins Jr. of Ft. Myers, Florida; a daughter, Karen S. Russell of Incline Village, Nevada; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
Retired from Siemens, where he was a manufacturing manager, he was a United States Army World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal and enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling.
A private family service is planned, with arrangements handled by the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
