Donald M. Horn, 96, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born in Logan County Ohio April 29, 1917, the son of the late Ralph and Kizzie (Bewley) Horn.
He grew up on a dairy farm as a child where he learned to care and love for animals from his father. He especially loved dogs, especially Sammy, Lady & Lizzie. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone and tell stories.
On December 3, 1939 in Bellefontaine, he married Thelma G. Guy and she preceded him in death April 9, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his son, Donald Horn Jr. and a brother, Richard Horn.
He is survived by his daughter, Cherie Horn of Bellefontaine; two grandchildren, Tara (Ron) LeVan and Michael (Lori) Horn, all of Bellefontaine; three great grandchildren, Cami LeVan, Hilary and Haley Horn, several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Ed and Sandy Muth and Keith and Trista Hardwick.
Donald served as Sheriff of Logan County from 1961 until 1969 when he received a Presidential Appointment, where he became a United States Marshal serving Southern Ohio.
He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #209 in Bellefontaine, a fifty year member of Antioch Shrine in Dayton, Ohio, Bellefontaine Commandery No. 61, Knights Templar, Grand Council Royal Select, and Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
Donald and Thelma loved the eighteen winters they spent in Ft. Myers, Florida.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Bellefontaine Cemetery with Pastor Jonathon Bull officiating.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
