Donald D. Powell, 91, of West Liberty, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born in Urbana, Ohio on March 2, 1925 to the late Russell and Ruth (Kemp) Powell. On May 3, 1947 he married the former Mary Lou Doty and she survives.
He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Walters of Urbana; Nieces and Nephews, Becky (Mark) Neer of Urbana, Debbie Rider of Springfield, Sandy (Ron) Bahan of North Lewisburg, Doug (Sara) Doty of Cable, Amanda (Thad) Robinson of Cable, Gary (Kathy) McCulla of West Liberty, Susan (Ron) Reib of Seattle, Washington, Keith McCulla of Urbana, Pattie Hamilton of Powell, Robin Thaxer of Columbus, Roger Hamilton of Urbana, Michael (Star) Hamilton of Athens, Ohio, Peggy (Larry) Rowe of Urbana, and Tim Henry of San Diego, California.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two nieces, Amy Hartman and Judy Furrow.
Donald was U.S. Army veteran, who served in World War II. He was a former Sprint Car owner that raced all over the Tri-States. Donald was a Master Plumber and owned his own plumbing and heating company in West Liberty. He enjoyed NASCAR, and his favorite driver was Bill Elliott. Donald also enjoyed watching “Westerns”, listening to books on tape and fishing.
Per Donald’s wishes, his body was donated to The Ohio State University Anatomical Medical Center and a memorial service will be celebrated at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
