Biography

Donald P. Scherer, 63, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at his residence Sunday, August 4, 2013.

He was born in Sidney, Ohio July 21, 1950, to Donna Mae (Wood) Scherer, who survives in Bellefontaine, and the late Eugene R. Scherer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Philip Scherer.

Surviving is his wife, Rita (Durnell) Scherer, whom he married in Bellefontaine June 17, 1983; three daughters, Mary (Robert) Terry, Joni Hughes and Teresa (Richard) Horvath all of Bellefontaine; a step-daughter, Maggie (Art Hower) Rorabough of DeGraff, Ohio; two step-sons, Larry Scherer and Brian Scherer, both of Bellefontaine; his siblings, Harold (Nancy) Scherer of Huntsville, Ohio, William (Tracey) Scherer and Barbara (Gerald Bargdill) Scherer, both of Bellefontaine; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A retired truck driver, Donald worked for Cassens Trucking Company and Clark Trucking Company. He was a fan of NASCAR and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed gun shows and his vegetable garden.

Pastor Jeffory Willetts will officiate the 12:00 P.M. funeral service Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, where friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
