Donald E. Stephens, age 86 of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at Green Hills Community in West Liberty, Ohio following a short illness.
He was born August 22, 1928 in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Cyril Wayne and Helen Grace (Gordon) Stephens. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Norva Stephens Yoder.
On September 2, 1954 in Cleveland, Mississippi, he married Geraldine “Jerry” Congleton and she survives along with a daughter, Stephanie (Bruce Thompson) Stephens of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Daniel (Marla) Stephens of Bellefontaine, Stuart Stephens of Bellefontaine, Thomas (Kelli) Stephens of DeGraff, Ohio; grandchildren, Kurtis (Stephanie) Stephens, Cy Stephens, Alexis Stephens, Katherine Stephens, Samantha Stephens, Christopher Stephens, Aubrey Stephens and Max Stephens; a great-grandchild, Jerrik Stephens and a brother, Gordon Wayne (Phyllis) Stephens of Englewood, Ohio.
Don had worked at Copeland Corporation in Sidney, Ohio, retiring in 1990.
A member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, he was also a member of the Harold Kerr Post #173 American Legion of Bellefontaine and the Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge #209 in Bellefontaine.
Don was an avid bowler, golfer and OSU fan. He enjoyed collecting Roseville and Flowblue pottery and also collected and sold antiques.
Pastor Ed Beale will officiate the funeral service at 11 A.M. Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home and also Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Military rites will be preformed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Zanesfield Cemetery in Zanesfield, Ohio at a later date.
The funeral arrangements were in care of the staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
