Donald R. Taylor, 64, of Jackson Center, passed away at 3:21 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born in Shelby County, Ohio on August 8, 1951 to the late Willie J. and Hannah L. (Swiger) Taylor. On November 11, 1977, Donald married the former Cynthia Gies and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Rodney, Everett and Earl Taylor.
Donald is survived by his three sisters, Marcia (Buster) Parker, Donna Jane (Joseph A.) Cocozzo and Grace (Edwin) Thornhill; sister-in-law, Diana Taylor; a niece, Angie (Bill) Conaway; a nephew, Anthony C.E. Cocozzo; a great nephew, Wyatt; a sister-in-law, Linda (Mike Ledley) Gies-Fout; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Gies.
Donald served in the U.S. Army, in Germany, during the Vietnam War and retired from Cargill in 2008 following 30 years of service. He was a member of Great Miami Long Rifles for several years and enjoyed the many friends he had made in the organization. He loved using mid 1800’s era woodworking and leatherworking techniques to create items to trade and give away, and was extremely proud of the long rifle he had made using these techniques. Donald also loved to read, especially history books about Lewis & Clark’s expeditions.
A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 214 W. Pike Street, Jackson Center where visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney, Ohio at a later date.
