Donald Eugene Wiley, 65, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away at his residence June 3, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 5, 1945 to the late Arnold and Dorothy (Applegate) Wiley of York Center, Ohio. Mr. Wiley suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for thirty five years.
He is survived by his faithful wife, Joanne (Waters) Wiley whom he married December 1, 1965 in Columbus, Ohio, and two daughters, Deborah (James) Etherton of West Liberty, and Cathy (Larry) Middaugh of Bellefontaine, Ohio and his grandchildren Kimberly, Ashley and Shelby Etherton and Kasey, Gracie and Emma Middaugh. Also surviving is one brother, David (Nancy) Wiley of rural Richwood, Ohio and sister Betty Shipley of Wickenburg, Arizona.
In 1964 Mr. Wiley worked as a courier for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. He served in the Ohio National Guard from 1965 to 1972 during the Ohio State Penitentiary and OSU area riots. He earned his Ohio State Farmer Degree in 1963 and was also elected the very first President of North Union Young Farmers at its inception in 1969. He loved farming and farmed in Union County from 1969 to 1985. He served as a supervisor for the Union County Soil and Water Conservation District and as Vice-President of Top of Ohio Resource, Conservation and Development from 1982 to1985. Mr. Wiley was also Executive Director of the Union County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, serving from 1986 to1987. He was a long-time member of the Bellefontaine First Church of God where he had served in the past as trustee and usher.
According to Mr. Wiley’s wishes, his body will be cremated followed by a private burial in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
Calling hours will be at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine, Ohio Friday, June 11, from 1 to 3 P.M. and 5 to 8 P.M. A memorial service and celebration of Mr. Wiley’s life will be held at The Bellefontaine First Church of God 1000 E. Brown Ave. Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 11 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the service with Pastor’s C.J. Plogger, Ron Irick and Dan Page officiating.
The staff at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with the arrangements.
