Donn Wade Frost, 86, of West Liberty, Ohio, crossed over into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, June 21, 2009. Donn was born July 13, 1922 in Logan County to the late Orville and Ida Mae (Parsons) Frost.
Donn leaves to cherish his memory of his wife of 64 years, Ruby (Snarr) Frost, whom he married on August 23, 1945, in Champaign County Ohio. She survives along with their children, Anita Frost of Denver, Colorado, Rebecca (Carl) Grohowski of Toledo, Ohio, and Corey Frost of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jay Fox and Grant (Beth) Grohowski; two great granddaughters, Sandra Grohowski and Alyssa Pelish; two sisters, Agnes (Bill) Lee and Frances (Bill) Crabtree and several generations of nieces and nephews. Donn will also be missed by his faithful canine companions, Bert and Carmella.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Wayne and Ben Frost; four sisters, Joan Frost, Claudine Bowman, Margaret Keith and Thelma Alexander; and a grandson, Stanley Grohowski.
Donn graduated from Salem High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for 34 ½ years at the International Harvester (Navistar) in Springfield, Ohio. After retiring from International, he worked part-time for the Ohio Caverns, first doing lawn maintenance and eventually giving tours through the caverns. He was a long time member of the West Liberty United Church of Christ where he taught Sunday school for many years. He also sang in the choir and served as deacon and eventually became a deacon emeritus.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the “Angels to the Rescue” group of the United Church of Christ for being just that – angels; to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Keeran for their love and help throughout Dad’s journey; and especially to Anita Frost and United Home Healthcare and Hospice for the loving care given to Dad in these final months.
The family will welcome visitors at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home 101 Zanesfield Road (US 68), West Liberty, Ohio, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Services will be held at the West Liberty United Church of Christ 212 E. Newell St. West Liberty, Ohio, on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Will Stackhouse officiating. Burial will follow funeral service at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, with military honors by the Logan County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
