Donovan ‘Keith’ Ricketts, 88, of Bellefontaine, formerly of West Liberty passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 in Green Hills Care Center. He was born on July 29, 1926 in Logan County, Ohio to the late Charles E. and Blanche E. (Keith) Ricketts.
On April 19, 1949, he married the former Mary Lou Mann in Indiana, and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2008. He is also preceded in death by his four sisters, Helen, Celia, Myrtle, and Mary and his eight brothers, Sherman, Milo, Charles, George, Manley, Phillip, Myron Jay, and Foreman.
He is survived by a daughter Beverly Yoder of West Liberty; grandchildren, Alissa Yoder of Port Orchid, WA, Emily (Darren) Pederson of Mantua, NJ and Joel Yoder of New Orleans, LA; two great grandchildren, Lillian & Klara Pedersen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Keith attended school in Monroe Township before he was drafted by the U.S. Army serving his country during WW II. He worked as a meat cutter before retiring from Super-Value in Kenton in 1988. He had attended the First United Methodist Church, Bellefontaine and after his retirement, he worked at Woodland Golf Course near Cable. In his earlier years, he played for several baseball and softball teams in the area including the Zanesfield Redmen and had been invited to Spring Training Camp by the Boston Red Sox.
He belonged to the American Legion and V.F.W., both of Bellefontaine and had served on the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard for several years.
Pastor Ed Beale will officiate an 11:00 a.m. graveside service on Friday, January 23, 2015 in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty with military rites provided by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
