Doris Aleen (Link) Lyons, 96, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, with her loving family by her side.

 

She was born on May 11, 1925, in Grant County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Florian and Mendola Elizabeth (Lawrence) Link.

 

Following graduation, she attended Miller’s Business College in Cincinnati, and later went to Dayton where she worked at Air Material Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.  She worked at McCall Corporation for five years and then for Omar Register Corporation that later became Power Tool Division of Rockwell International and was secretary to the Plant Manager.  During her tenure of 32 years, she worked for 13 different plant managers.

 

Doris was then called to Holloway Sportswear in Jackson Center and was hired as secretary to the President of the company.  She retired from Holloway in July of 2006, after 22 years.

 

On November 20, 1954, she married Charles Wesley Lyons of Bellefontaine in the Grace Methodist Church Chapel in Dayton, by Rev. E.J.A. St. Louis, past of the church and formerly of Bellefontaine.  Charles had recently been honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and he preceded her in death on August 22, 2017, after 63 years of marriage.

 

She is survived by her son, David Mikhael (Cheryl) Lyons, and two grandsons that were her pride and joy, Cody Scott (Abby) Lyons and Nicklaus Payne Lyons, a great granddaughter, Sloane Elizabeth Lyons, three loving sisters; Gloria Middleton, Kaye Frost (her son Robert Scott (Doena) from Corinth, KY and daughter Jenna Kaye (Scott) Janesof NC), Glenna Simpson of Williamstown, KY (her son Chris (Ana) Simpson and daughter Penny Lynn Balush of Dry Ridge, KY), two sisters in law; Connie Link (her son, Todd Link and daughter, Kimberly (Doug) Albers) of Williamstown, KY and Iona Link of Berry, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews and many close friends.  Doris loved each one of her family members.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Florian Jr., Maldon, Bobbie, Donald, and Wayne Link.

 

Her greatest joy was attending the sporting events of her grandsons with her family and enjoying family gatherings.  Cody and Nicklaus were very special in her life.

 

She was active in the community serving as a Girl Scout leader for several years.  A member of the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, she taught Sunday School for over 20 years and served on numerous committees.  She was also active in the Bellefontaine Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving as President for two terms.  She was also active in the Ohio Branch and International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons, serving as President and Treasurer of the Ohio Branch, and Treasurer of the International Order for four years.  Doris was a member of the Tuxis Circle of Ohio Branch for more than 60 years.  The Maplecrest Assisted Living Home at Bucyrus is owned and operated by the Members of the Ohio Branch of the King’s Daughters and Sons.  At the time the home was being built, Doris was the Ohio Branch Treasurer and she had also served as trustee of the home.

 

Doris taught typing at Bellefontaine High School evening program for a number of years. Doris loved golf and in her earlier years, she and her late husband played regularly. She also enjoyed canning as her husband always had a beautiful garden of fresh vegetables.

 

She was a devoted member of the Bellefontaine Chapter #459 of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She served as the chapter secretary for 27 years and was also treasurer.  In 1974, she was appointed Deputy Grand Matron of District 11 of the Grand Chapter of Ohio. (17 chapters in District 11)

 

Rev. Kenneth F. Clark Jr. will officiate the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine where visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. 

 

Graveside services will be at 12 noon Monday, February 7, 2022, in the gazebo at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
