Doris Thaxton

Doris J. Thaxton, 85, of Logan County Ohio, passed away Sunday morning, February 26, 2012, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine. Doris was born in Huntsville, Ohio July 2, 1926, to the late Mont and Bessie McMillen Cook. She married William S. Skidmore, and he preceded her in death February 7, 1956. She later married Wendell Thaxton February 15, 1968 in Belle Center, Ohio, and he preceded her in death November 27, 2001. Doris was also preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, Leslie E. Cook.

A devoted homemaker, Doris was a member of the Belle Center Church of Christ and was a volunteer with the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild. Doris enjoyed sewing, reading, doing puzzles, flower gardening and going to the Friendly Senior Center.

Doris is survived by her children William L. (Bronwyn) Skidmore of Bellefontaine and Linda (Thomas) Allen of West Liberty, Ohio; step-children Cletus (Marina) Thaxton of Bloomfield, New Mexico, Howard Ray (Susan) Thaxton of Peoria, Arizona, Lucille (William) Campbell of Bellefontaine, Dorothy (Ernest) Tracey of Zanesfield, Ohio, Lois Ruble and Lillian Willeke, both of Bellefontaine; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Keith) Allison, Jill Gillen, W. Matthew (Marci) Skidmore, Adam Skidmore, Nathan (Amanda) Skidmore, James (Brandy) Allen; 10 great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
