Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, Dorothy M. King, 98, of West Liberty, Ohio, died at 3 P.M. Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in West Liberty on July 30, 1910, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Martha E. Zook Hartzler.

After graduating from Monroe local school, she took her first job as a cook at Urbana University. On Sept. 9, 1934, she married Loren King and he preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1998. Together they became matron and superintendent of the Mennonite Orphan’s Home, now Adriel School. In 1948, the couple purchased the old Enoch Mill and founded Farmer’s Supply Co., now known as King Feed and Supply Inc., a family-owned business in West Liberty and Bellefontaine.

A member of Bethel Mennonite Church in West Liberty, she attended the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class, served as the children’s superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters; Beverly (John) Stoltzfus of Apple Creek, Linda (Paul) Hostetler of West Liberty and Mary (Claude Denslow) Boldman of Bellevue; three sons, David (Mary) King of North Lewisburg, Dwight (Dixie) King of Bradenton, Florida, and Alvin (Karen) King of West Liberty; thirteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four stepgrandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew; a sister, Anna Margaret; and two brothers, Herbert and Harold.

Pastor David Maurer will conduct a memorial service at 2 P.M. Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Bethel Mennonite Church in West Liberty. Calling hours are from 1 to 4 P.M. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial is at the South Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Logan County Cancer Society and Bethel Mennonite Church.
