Dwight M. Spencer, Sr., age 79, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born December 23, 1934 in Hardin County Ohio, to the late Gale and Eula (Shaw) Spencer. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Roena Cain and her husband Leroy; Neva Pitman and her husband Wade; Iola Spencer, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis I. Redd.
On May 7, 1960, he married the former Nancy C. Rich in Mount Victory, Ohio and she survives along with a son, Dwight (Billie) Spencer Jr. of Huntsville, Ohio; grandchildren, Mike Spencer of Florida, Matt (Rachel) Spencer of Lima, Ohio, Travis (Christina) Anderson of DeGraff, Ohio and Lisa (Matt) Wurtsbaugh of Richwood, Ohio; great grandchildren, Maddy, Zach, Brooklynn, Logan, Hannah, Houston, Hunter, Korbyn and Avery; sisters, Eileen (Lloyd) Seeley of Lakeview, Ohio and Sis (Glen) Glassford of DeGraff; a sister-in-law, Donna (Ray) Geboy of Bellefontaine; several nieces and nephews, and a close friend, Steve Sheeley of Bellefontaine.
In his younger years, he worked as a farmer and later owned his own business where he operated heavy equipment. Dwight also worked for Westerman Construction and later for Robinson Investment/Construction Company, both in Bellefontaine.
Dwight was a member of Bellefontaine’s V.F.W., the Eagles and the American Legion.
Pastor Ray Headings will officiate a 1:00 P.M. graveside service Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
The staff of the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine handled the arrangements for the family.
