Edison Ray Henry, 83, of Belle Center Ohio, beloved husband and best friend of Loris Lee (Prieser) Henry (deceased) for 59 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on August 2, 2015.
In addition to his loving spouse he was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Reba Henry, a sister Carol and a brother Carl 'Buzz' Henry.
Ed was born in Belle Center on March 28, 1932 where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Belle Center High School and signed up to serve in the Navy during the Korean War just prior to receiving his draft notice. He was a member of the Belle Center Post of the American Legion and was honored as Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 2014.
After his time in the service Ed was employed at Hopewell Dairy as a milkman for close to 10 years before working as a Welder, Tool and Die Specialist and a Set-Up Technician at Rockwell in Kenton, Ohio for 28 years, the position from which he retired. Ed also wore many different hats as he served the community he lived in and loved. For several years he was a volunteer firefighter for the BCFD. He served as the Belle Center Town Deputy Marshall in addition to being one of the founding members of the BMRT where both Ed and Loris served as emergency responders on the local paramedic squad and treated many of the neighborhood cuts and scrapes. He was the Summer Athletic director for Belle Center for several years along with being a great Little League Coach and supporter of all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their extra-curricular activities. Ed was a long time member of the Belle Center United Methodist Church.
Ed is survived by five of his siblings and six children. Ted (Ruth) Henry of Wapakoneta, Mary (Rick) Ransbottom of Bellefontaine, Judy (Bill) Harshbarger of Wapakoneta, Edison 'Eddie' (Cheri) Henry of San Diego, California, Joseph (Melody) Henry of Urbana and Amy Henry of Belle Center; his 18 grandchildren (1 deceased), 20 great-grandchildren (1 deceased); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of The Ohio State University James Cancer Center. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
Friends may call on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 306 North Elizabeth Street, Belle Center. A funeral service will be held honoring Ed on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Belle Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery with military honor guard.
