Edith Mary Hernandez met her Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face on July 22, 2015. She was born in Manhattan, New York on December 14, 1928. She was introduced to her Savior when she was 12 years of age at a Sunday School in Brooklyn, New York. As a young woman she worked with a physician and grew to love the medical field. She attended Columbia Bible College and the Edna McConnell School of Nursing. In 1952 she married her husband of 59 years, Jose Hernandez in Brooklyn, New York.

Edith worked as a nurse in Massapequa, New York and faithfully served at Capilla Evangelica in New York City. It was there she raised five children, Richard, David, Nelson, Helena and Stephen. Upon retiring she and Jose relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she was involved at the Fort Lauderdale Bible Chapel. In 2008 she came to live in West Liberty, OH. Since that time she has attended the Union Chapel Community Church and been an active member of the Green Hills Community.

Edith loved getting to know people and was a wonderful encouragement. She wrote poetry for her friends and family, had a smile for everyone, and was genuinely interested in each person she met. She loved those who cared for her at Green Hills and they become as family to her.

Edith is preceded in death by her twin sister Lillian Murr, her husband Jose Hernandez and son Stephen Hernandez.

She will be missed by her children: Dr. Richard (Lisa) Hernandez of St. Augustine,, FL, Pastor David (Joann) Hernandez of Bellefontaine, OH, Nelson (Andrea) Hernandez of West Virginia, Helena (Marco) DePinho of Bellefontaine, and Linda Hernandez of New York. Grandchildren: Daniel Hernandez, Season (Bryan) Love, Tara (Sheldon) Blattner, Havilah (Adam) Stansbury, Lindsey Hernandez, Leah (Steven) Woodruff, Jonathan (Deborah) DePinho, Bethjoy (Steven) Houck, Rachel Hernandez, Christopher (Brittany) Hernandez, Margret (Brandon ) Ormond, Bonnie, Shirley, Jacqueline, Richard Hernandez and Joshua and Miriam Salvatore as well as 12 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Foundation Hall at Green Hills in West Liberty, OH, on Saturday, July 25 at 10:30 AM. Pastor Jeremy Sarver will be officiating. Burial will be private.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty.
