Edith Parmer passed away peacefully November 6. Born May 9, 1926, in Bellefontaine to Ed and Edith (Stein) Switzer, she was a 1944 graduate of Huntsville School. She married Gail L. Parmer in Logan County on August 6, 1947; he predeceased her on December 27, 1979.
She is survived by her three children, Martine (Gregory) Millman, Ed (Pam) Parmer, Penelope (Jerome) Parmer-Britton, and step-daughter Debbie (Warren) Blair; grandchildren Bridget Millman, Camille Parmer, Anna (Allan An) Millman, Magdalen Millman, Billy Millman, Joseph Millman, and Blaise Millman; step-grandchildren Jay (Tonya) Blair, Twilah (Jason) Fairchild, Brandy (Orlando) Serrano; and several step-great-grandchildren.
Edith was a lifelong resident of Logan County, save a few years in Springfield shortly after marriage, and her final two years spent in New Jersey with daughter Martine and family. A long-time employee of the Bellefontaine Examiner, Edith worked in the advertising department through six decades. She also worked at A.J. Miller Company as a riveter during World War II and with The News-Sun in Springfield.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Edith was generous and always cared about others. After retirement she volunteered extensively, helping her neighbors, serving in many capacities in the Zanesfield United Methodist Church, and regularly assisting at the Green Hills Community in West Liberty. She was an active member of the Zanesfield Chamber of Commerce and in 1997 was honored to be named Zanesfield's "Citizen of the Year." Retirement gave Edith the time to enjoy gardening, walks, travel with family and friends, mysteries, and the company of her dogs.
Even though illness had robbed her of her independence in recent months, she was unfailingly curious, engaged and interested in life around her. She retained her sense of humor to the end. And she always loved dogs!
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Monday, November 19th at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
A funeral service will be led by Reverend Roger Ashley on Tuesday, November 20th at 1:00 pm at the Zanesfield United Methodist Church and followed by interment in Zanesfield Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
The arrangements are in the care of the staff of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine.
