Ed L. Wallace, 63, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 7:05 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Bellefontaine on October 5, 1952 to the late Carroll Edward and Marguerite (Martin) Wallace. On August 4, 1973 he married the former Cathy Meredith and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Nicholas (Angela) Wallace of Bellefontaine; grandchildren, Allison, Nathan, and Alaina Wallace; sisters, Carol Ann (Donald) Parker of Hilliard, Betty Jo Yost of Bellefontaine, Joyce Circle of Springfield, and Deborah (Peter) Keeran of Rushylvania; a brother, Jeff Wallace of Arizona; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Fred Meredith; sister-in-law, Theda (Mike) Moore of Bellefontaine; brother-in-law, Michael (Karin) Yoder of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Yoder.
Ed was President/CEO of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce for 14 years. He was an Elder Emeritus member of the First Christian Church of Bellefontaine, where he was a church trustee, on the Stewardship Committee, and member of the Homebuilders class. Ed also served as Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board President, International Friendship Center President, Kiwanis Club of Bellefontaine President, and the Bellefontaine High School Music Club President. He was Vice President of the Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association, Downtown Business Partnership Member, Bellefontaine City School Board Member, OSU Extension Board Member, member of United Way, the West Ohio Economic Development Group, and a Bellefontaine High School Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient. Ed was a 5-year cancer survivor and was named Honorary Co-Chairman for the Relay for Life. Last October, Ed received the prestigious, Richard J. Rupp Leadership Award. Two months ago, the Joint Recreation District, Logan County Chamber of Commerce, and FOP Hi Point Lodge 60 dedicated a flag pole at Hoffman Pool honoring his legacy. Ed served 21 years on the park board. He loved to golf and was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. In 21 years, Ed never missed a Buckeye home game. He also enjoyed doing the filming of the Bellefontaine High School football games, which he did for over 30 years. Ed went skydiving for the first time last year and loved it. He loved his family and was very active with his grandkids.
Pastor Mike Valentine will officiate a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the First Christian Church, 215 E. Sandusky Ave. Bellefontaine. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14th from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine.
