Eileen Vellenga

Eileen H. Vellenga, 86, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away at 5:03 A.M. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine. She was born July 24, 1925, the daughter of the late Harry E. and Edna (Tapp) Hughes.

She married John S. Vellenga February 27, 1948 in Rushsylvania, Ohio, and he preceded her in death March 26, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William E. Hughes.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan K. (Dave) Bechtel of Bellefontaine; two sons, James E. (Lisa) Vellenga of Muncie, Indiana and Jeffrey J. Vellenga of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Joann Wheeler of Westerville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Travis (Keri) Bechtel of Goodrich, Michigan, John Vellenga and Katherine Vellenga both of Muncie, Indiana; two great grandchildren, Reghan and Ethan Bechtel of Goodrich, Michigan, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-laws in the Logan County area.

Eileen attended the First Christian Church of Bellefontaine for many years where she was active in several circles. She was a 1943 graduate of Roundhead High School and worked for Merchants Industries, Murphy’s, was a waitress at the Elks Lodge, and later worked for Siemens where she eventually retired. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the D.A.R. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine with Don Newland officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.
