Elizabeth I. “Betty” Wirick, 87, of West Liberty, Ohio passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio.
She was born in Urbana, Ohio September 9, 1925, to the late Thomas W. and Marie (Madden) Swisher. She married Philip B. Wirick November 24, 1946, in West Liberty and he preceded her in death July 21, 2003.
Betty is survived by her sons Dale (Peggy) Wirick of West Liberty, Dean (Patti) Wirick of West Liberty and Neil (Peggy) Wirick of Cable, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lee (Laura) Wirick of Lowell, Michigan, Dustin Wirick of Cincinnati, Ohio, Susannah (Andrew) Moore of Greeley, Colorado, and Daniel Wirick of Cable; two great-granddaughters, Ava and Stella Wirick; a brother, Robert S. (Carolyn) Swisher of Tipp City, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Joyce (Steve) McCullough of West Liberty, Steve (Lisa) Swisher of Park City, Utah, Tom (Lorna) Swisher of New Carlisle, Ohio, Kayo (Melanie) Wirick of West Liberty; a special cousin, Tom (Charlotte) Boyer of Industry, Pennsylvania; and a special son, John Perkins of West Liberty.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of West Liberty Salem High School and attended office training school in Columbus. She worked as a microfilm operator at the Logan County Courthouse, and was the Liberty Township Clerk, a book keeper for Liberty Oil and Gas and as a waitress at Dajolees and the Liberty Gathering Place.
Betty was a member of the Salem Home Demonstration Club and the first female member of the West Liberty Salem School Board. She was also a founding member of the Green Hills Center and served on their first board. She was a member of McKee’s Creek Chapel and had worked as their treasurer. Betty enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sports activities and still followed the West Liberty teams. She liked exercising at the Champaign County Y.M.C.A.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in West Liberty. A graveside service will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 10 A.M. at the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty. A memorial service will follow at 11 A.M. at the McKee’s Creek Chapel with Pastor Floyd Lundy officiating.
