Ellen Darby

Ellen Eileen “Susie” Darby, 87, of Belle Center, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

She was born July 31, 1921 in Goshen Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, to the late Grover Cleveland and Mary Alberta (Weatherby) Bowsher.

On June 7, 1941, she married John Melvin Darby in Huntsville, Ohio, and he preceded her in death September 26, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carl and Paul Bowsher.

Surviving is a daughter, Rosemary (Neale) Sanderson of Belle Center; a brother, Nelson (Rhoda) Bowsher of Lima, Ohio; sisters, Betty Hutchinson of New Hampshire, Ohio, and Donna (Don) Spencer of Lima; granddaughters, Sherri Lynn (Carl) Grundy of Belle Center, and Jennifer (Christopher) Patton of Bellefontaine; a great-granddaughter, Darby Rose Patton and several nieces and nephews.

A homemaker, Susie worked as an LPN at the Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine for five years, and worked on the farm with her husband.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Roundhead and the Roundhead United Methodist Women. She enjoyed decorating cakes.

Rev. Philip Brenneman will conduct the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Belle Center, where calling hours are from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Burial will be in the Roundhead Cemetery.
